Paris is the capital and largest city of France. Situated in a meander of the River Seine, which divides it into two parts - the Right Bank (Rive droite) to the north and the smaller Left Bank (Rive gauche) to the south. The river is known for its numerous piers, which are mostly green and designed for walking, with bibliopole - book sellers in the open, and historic bridges linking the north and south. Paris is also famous for its large avenues, planted with chestnut trees, the most famous of which is the Champs Elysees, and a number of architectural landmarks.
