Mikonos is a Greek island and a mass tourist destination, known for its cosmopolitan character and its intense nightlife. The island of Cyclades island group and is located between the islands of Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos. It is believed that the island's name comes from the name of a local hero, who is considered to be a descendant of Apollo. Mykonos is composed primarily of granite. There is some fresh water and relies heavily on desalination of sea water in order to meet the needs for drinking water. The island's capital is called People.
