Ravѐna is a town in the eastern part of northern Italy. Ravenna is the center of the Province of Ravenna in the Emilia-Romagna. Located inland, but is connected to the Adriatic Sea by a navigable canal. Ravenna was the capital of the Western Roman Empire (5th century), and later - of ostgotskata state and the Byzantine possessions in Italy (6-8 century: see Exarchate of Ravenna). The patron of the city is considered St. Apollinaris. Official holiday is July 23, the date on which the Church commemorates the saint.
