Yekaterinburg is a city in Russia, the administrative center of the Sverdlovsk Region and the Ural Federal District. Its population is about 1.41 million people (2014), which ranks fourth in the country after Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk.Parvonachalno named St. Catherine, between 1924 and 1991 the city named after communist activist Yakov Sverdlov.
